Why You Should Stop Using Your Wash Station

Updated: May 28

In a video titled "How to Prevent 3D Models from Cracking", the famous resin printer manufacturer Phrozen explains the various methods recommended to clean your resin models. What's curious is that using a wash station is not part of the recommendation.

Why dipping the model in and out of an alcohol bath is better than using a wash station?

Wash stations are ok for removing resin residues that are on the outer surface of the model, but it's bad at removing resin that's trapped inside the model, especially when they're hollow. You should dip the model into an alcohol bath, leave it for 15 min, and take it out. Repeat the process 1 or 2 times and all the trapped resin will be dissolved and pushed out of your model.

Warning!! Note that Phrozen also recommends using a ultrasonic cleaner with water to wash their model printed with water-washable resin. However, if you're using standard resin and IPA alcohol, do not put the alcohol into the ultrasonic cleaner directly due to fire hazard! Put the alcohol inside a plastic/ziploc bag, then dip the bag into the ultrasonic cleaner with water.

How should I remove resin on the outer surface without a wash station?

For model outer surface, simply use an alcohol or water spray to clean it.

In conclusion, don't use the "wash" function of your wash and cure station, only use the cure function.
